No injuries reported
The Austin Fire Department and law enforcement spent the early part of Tuesday morning searching for a vehicle that plunged into the Cedar River just above Mill Pond in downtown Austin.
According to Austin Police Chief David McKichan at the scene, the vehicle went in around 7:30 a.m. Video from the scene showed two occupants climbing out of the windows as the vehicle floated in the Cedar before sinking.
Both occupants were uninjured and told authorities that they were blinded by the early morning sun and went in off of Hormel Drive.
Efforts to even find the vehicle were compounded by the lack of visibility and muck at the bottom of the river. A dive team was called in to help locate the vehicle, which was eventually pulled out of the river at around 1:45 p.m.
