Donald Roger Chapek, age 88, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Donald was born October 7, 1935, to John and Theresa (Svejkovsky) Chapek on the family farm in Freeborn County, Minnesota. He graduated in 1954 from Austin High School. On November 29, 1958, Donald was united in marriage to Arlene Blume at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Austin. Their union was blessed with five children. Donald was known for his dedication to farming and his commitment to his family. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, and mowing his lawn. Donald also loved visiting his neighbors and checking fields on his gator. He had a passion for restoring John Deere tractors and showcasing them at the Mower County Fair for 20 years. His grandkids and great grandkids were his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Donald was a devoted member of Trondhjem Lutheran Church and actively involved in the Mower County Historical Society. As a young man, he was part of the FFA and proudly received the American FFA Degree award. He was also a committed member of the Moose Lodge and Bohemian Hall for 75 years. Known for his patient and loving nature, Donald left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Survivors include his wife, Arlene Chapek; children, Randy Chapek, Douglas Chapek, Shawna (Chris Jackson) Turner, John (Sandy) Chapek, and Ann Chapek; grandchildren, Carissa, Bradley, Lindsey, Andrew, Cortney, Reed, and Serena; great grandchildren, Knox, Elowyn, Wyatt, and Adam. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Theresa Chapek; daughter-in-law, Lisa Chapek; son-in-law, Michael Turner; siblings, Alice, Elmer, Violet, and Lillian.
The funeral service for Donald will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2024, at Trondhjem Lutheran Church, rural Austin. The visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Interment will be in Bohemian National Cemetery, Myrtle. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
