Gary Lynn Boettcher, 82, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024 at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota.
Gary was born February 3, 1942 in Austin, Minnesota to Edward and Madeline (Paulson) Boettcher. He graduated from Austin High School in 1960 and completed his schooling at the Austin Vocational School. Gary honorably served in the US Air Force from August 1961 to July 1965.
Gary’s devotion to his family was unwavering. He married and raised his son and two stepdaughters in Austin Acres, where he resided until his retirement from the Local #6 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union. Gary was a proud parent and grandparent, always putting family first. Whether it was camping, washing cars in the rain, or cooking for family get-togethers, Gary’s favorite activities were always centered around his loved ones. Gary was filled with joy and humor, provoking laughs with his many jokes, funny faces, and silly songs.
Another passion of Gary’s was music. There was never a time the radio was not on, and he spent many a weekend playing in numerous local bands. While he played the guitar, his claim to fame was his vocal talent, as evidenced by the large following of fans.
After retirement, Gary lived in Wisconsin and Arizona until he returned to Austin and finally to Blooming Prairie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jayden Boettcher; step-daughter, Kimmy; brother, Michael Boettcher; sister, Kristi; and step-brothers, Harlan, David and John Lysne.
Gary is survived by his brother, Brian (LaDonna) Boettcher of Mankato, Minnesota; step-daughter, Lorrie (Jerry) Lang-Wing; grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with the Austin American Legion Post #91 and Olaf B. Damm Post #1216, VFW in charge of military rites.
