The Riverside Figure Skating Club is ready to glow up in front of the community as the club is set to host its annual show at Riverside Arena 4 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
This year’s show is titled “Let’s Glow Skating” and it is the 49th annual ice show that the club has held. The club has a show ready to go that will feature experienced solo skaters, group performances by veterans and beginners alike, all while providing an all-around fun atmosphere.
“There have been so many shows over the years, but I’m excited for this one. I love the shows, it’s my favorite thing about skating,” senior Emily Klapperich said.
Klapperich, who has skated for 10 years, and Mia King, who has skated for 13 years, are the two seniors finishing off their skating journeys for RFSC this weekend.
King said it will be a fun way to go out.
“I’m excited for it to be my last show, but it also doesn’t seem like it’s my last show after 13 years. It’ll finally seem real when it’s over,” King said.
King tributes the presence of long-time head coach Chris Amy for nurturing her dedication to skating over the years.
“Coach Chris is great and it’s a really fun and unique sport,” King said. “Not a lot of people know about it, but it’s so much fun.”
This will be the second memorable senior moment for Klapperich as she recently competed in the Class A State Gymnastics Meet for the first time. She was able to balance skating and gymnastics over the winter and now she’s ready for another grand finale.
“It worked out well with gymnastics and there’s not a huge difference between the sports,” Klapperich said. “I use a lot of my gymnastics skills in skating.”
The performance will include glow sticks available for purchase so the crowd can add to the ambience of the show.
RFSC has over 50 skaters performing in this year’s show.
