Anna Marie “Anne” Hager, age 87, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Nisswa, Minnesota, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester. Anna was born October 21, 1936, to Alfredo and Mildred (Robinson) Giovannetti in Austin, Minnesota. She was a 1954 graduate of Pacelli High School. Throughout her working career she held various jobs as a dental assistant, bookkeeper, and Mercedes valet. On September 29, 1956, she was united in marriage to Charles Schmidt in Austin, Minnesota. The couple raised three children and later divorced. She then married Charles Hager on April 28, 1990, in Nisswa, Minnesota. Anne loved spending time by the lake, especially fishing and boating. She also enjoyed playing card games such as Bridge and was an avid supporter of the Minnesota Vikings. Anne grew up as a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin and was a faithful Catholic throughout her life. She also belonged to the Elks and dedicated much of her time to volunteering and caring for animals. Anne will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Bill Fremming) Schmidt of Plymouth, Minnesota, and Nancy (Doug Kraus) Schmidt of Rochester, Minnesota; one grandchild, Miranda (Drew) Engebretson; two great grandchildren, Violet and Raiden Engebretson; sisters-in-law, Nancy Giovannetti and Delores Root; and several nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alfredo and Mildred Giovannetti; husband, C.B. Hager; sons, Charles Schmidt Jr., and Todd Schmidt; son-in-law, Reid Quamme; brother, Paul Giovannetti; and first husband, Chuck Schmidt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Austin. Memorials are preferred to the Arthritis Foundation, www.arthritis.org, or the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org.
