Evolve wraps up successful season

Evolve Dance and Fitness Studio of Austin, now in its 23rd season of business in the community of Austin, had its dancers compete  in several regional dance competitions this year.

Lennon Huffman started off the competition season in February competing at Symposium in Des Moines, Iowa. She earned a Diamond Award and first place overall and earned the Hope Award which is awarded to the highest scoring mini age routine out of the entire competition.

Dancers then headed to the Hall of Fame competition in Burnsville in March. Platinum awards were earned by soloists Huffman and Halvorson. Lyrical group “Iris” earned a platinum award and sixth place overall.

High gold awards were earned by soloists Willow Crawford, Elyse Gustafson, Emma Decker, Paige Miller, Elizabeth Hoeppner, Lily Schulz, Zoey Wiseman, Liviana Vogt, and a duet- performed by Halvorson and King. Junior Company and Senior Company tap jazz and lyrical Group numbers earned High Gold awards. Judge’s Choice Award winners were: Halvorson, Crawford, King and the duet with King and Halvorson, Glam junior jazz group, You Will Be Found lyrical group, Darkside Junior Jazz group. Huffman won third place overall. Gustafson won first place overall.

The next competition they attended was the Rainbow Competition in Marshalltown, Iowa in April. Platinum Awards were earned by Gustafson and third place overall, Emma Decker and eighth place overall, Schulz, Wiseman, Vogt, Crawford, Hoeppner, Miller, a duet performed by Gustafson and Huffman, junior company Glam group, junior company Darkside group, junior company tap, lyrical group “You Will Be Found,” senior company tap and fifth place overall and judges choice award, senior company musical theater sixth place overall, and lyrical group Iris and 10th place overall. Earning Double platinum awards was Halvorson and fifth place overall, King and eighth place overall, Huffman and fourth place overall, duet performed by King and Kira Halvorson. The lyrical group You Will Be Found earned an NYC invitation.

In May, it was time for the Talent on Parade competition in Rochester. Halvorson earned Double Diamond for both solo’s and third place overall and was selected to be in their TOP nationals team. Vogt’s solo earned a Diamond Award.

To finish the season, the dancers competed at the Applause competition in Minneapolis. Earning Platinum Awards were soloists Schulz, Decker, Miller, King, Wiseman, and Crawford. Groups earning platinum awards included junior company Darkside, You Will Be Found lyrical group, Senior Company musical theater.

Earning Double Platinum awards were: soloists Huffman and fourth place overall and judges choice award, Gustafson, Hoeppner and 14th place overall, Vogt, Halvorson and 14th place overall, duet performed by King and Halvorson and fourth place overall, duet permed by Gustafson and Huffman, groups Junior Company tap, lyrical group Iris, Senior Company tap and judges choice award, and Junior Company Jazz Glam group. Both Iris and Glam groups received an NYC invitation.

Competition teachers and choreographers are Megan Fleiner, Bridget Halvorson, and Kira Halvorson. The instructors couldn’t be more proud of the amazing growth, progress, hard work, and accomplishments of the dancers this season. Come and watch these award winning dances and dancers perform at their recital on Sunday, June 2 at Austin High School’s Knowlton Auditorium at 6 p.m. Tickets are available at the door for $10 a person.
