Garnet Butler, 97

Garnet Hattie Butler, age 97, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 26, 2024.
Garnet was born on September 30, 1926 in rural Iowa, she was the fourth oldest of eleven children, to William and Esther (Edge) Butler. The Butler family moved to Austin, Minnesota where Garnet graduated from Austin High School. After graduating, Garnet held a few different jobs until she became an employee of Hormel where she worked for 43 years. Garnet’s past time was doing pencil drawings of people and paintings of farm buildings, gardening, traveling, doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles and enjoying her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Esther; siblings, Arbor (Evelyn) Butler, Leonard (Ona) Butler, Dorothy Butler, Lorraine (Elvin) Nelson, Virginia Butler, William Butler, Margaret (Karrol) Bretz, Jim (MaryAnn) Butler, Russell (Nancy) Butler; and her very special friend, Juliann Seys.
Garnet is survived by her only sister, Maureece Butler and many nieces and nephews.
Garnet’s family would like to send a special thanks to the staff and nurses of South Grove Lodge where Garnet was a resident for three years, to the Cedars of Austin Memory Care staff on their exceptional care of Garnet, and to all of the Mayo Hospice staff that helped Garnet in her transition.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 1st at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service on Saturday morning. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary.
Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
