In front of a large group of friends and family, the Austin Police Department swore in its newest officer Monday morning.
Assigned badge number 144, Isaac Jacobs was sworn in as Austin’s 32nd officer, coming in as long-time officer Sgt. Kim Lenz is leaving to take a position with the Red Wing Police Department.
Jacobs was sworn in by Director of Administrative Services Tom Dankert, with several members of APD looking on.
After his swearing in, APD Chief David McKichan welcomed Jacobs and gave him some opening advice.
“Try to remember how it felt today,” McKichan said.
Jacobs grew up in Austin and was a graduate of both Austin High School and Riverland Community College having gone through its law enforcement program.
APD is still looking to hire four more officers to bring them up to their approved number of 36 total.
