People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD) can save money without risking benefits through a Special Needs Trust or an ABLE account.
A Special Needs Trust allows individuals to set aside funds for specific expenses without affecting eligibility for government benefits. It’s managed by a trustee who ensures the money is used appropriately.
An ABLE account, on the other hand, lets individuals save up to a certain amount annually for disability-related expenses. Both options provide avenues for financial security while maintaining eligibility for vital benefits.
For assistance or guidance in setting up these accounts, individuals can reach out for advocacy support at www.lifemowercounty.org/advocacy, calling 507-433-8994 or by visiting the LIFE Mower County office.
We offer expertise and resources to navigate these financial avenues effectively.
