An Austin man is in jail after he was arrested Monday for allegedly threatening members of his family with a knife.

Moses Adam Idris, 22, made a first appearance in Mower County District Court Wednesday and faces six charges in total including two counts of felony second degree assault with a dangerous weapon, two felony counts of threats of violence and two gross misdemeanor counts of domestic assault.

Idris is currently being held in the Mower County Jail on $40,000 bail without conditions and $10,000 bail with conditions. His next appearance is an initial appearance on July 8.

Idris was arrested late Monday afternoon after Austin police were dispatched to the 1400 block of Third Avenue NW at around 4:18 p.m. for a call that Idris had a knife and was threatening family.

According to the court complaint, when the first officer arrived, two people were seen coming from the home, who told the officer that Idris was still inside the house. Idris eventually left the home and was taken into custody.

According to the victims at the scene, the incident started after Idris became locked out of the home late Monday morning. Only one of the victims was home at the time and said he didn’t at first hear Idris trying to get back in the home.

When the second victim returned home, she said that a room was in disarray. While talking with the first victim, Idris came downstairs with a pocket knife in hand with blade pointed at the second victim, allegedly stating he was going to kill her.

The first victim stated that a couple hours prior to officers being dispatched, Idris allegedly threatened him, telling him that if he locked the door he would kill him.

When police questioned Idris he told them that locking the door had been “a thing” for the past year. He also stated that he began punching and kicking the door to get back into the house.

He then allegedly told the officer that he saw the knife sitting on the counter, picked it up and showed it to the first victim. The court complaint states that Idris told the officer that he threatened the second victim when she came home.

However, he also stated that he was just trying to scare both victims.

Idris has a prior conviction dating back to April of 2022 for violation of a domestic abuse no contact order.
