Kira Halvorson and Lennon Huffman, of Evolve Dance and Fitness Studio, attended the Symposium National Dance Competition on July 11-14.
They traveled to Branson, Missouri to compete with studio’s from all over the United States.
Huffman had the opportunity to participate in Diamond Dancers performance team, which is a select group of dancers that score in the top tier at their regionals; she also took classes and learned from several professional dancers and teachers at their convention.
She performed her jazz solo “Circus,” and earned first place overall Diamond award for her age division for solos and first place overall out of all groups, solos, duet/trio for that age division.
She also won a judges choice award for powerful lines.
Halvorson competed her contemporary solo “Vast and Limitless” and earned first place overall Diamond Award for solos for her age and first place overall out of all groups, solos, and duet/trios for her age division. She also won the costume award.
“Both dancers earned the National Champion status for their age division and that really was nice to see all their hard work pay off,” said instructor Bridget Halvorson. “This is Lennon’s second time winning the national championship. She is only nine years old and has such a big future ahead of her.”
“This was Kira’s last competition as she just graduated high school and it was really nice to end with a big victory for her,” she continued. “She’s had to overcome a lot of adversity and has worked extremely hard to earn this national championship. Halvorson will continue dancing at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities this fall. I’m so proud of these dancers.”
