John Lampert Plunkett

John Lampert Plunkett – 9 Feb. 1947 – 7 April 2024 passed peacefully in San Diego CA after a long struggle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Hugh V. Plunkett, Jr and Lorraine Plunkett (nee Lampert), his brother Hugh V. Plunkett III, sister Deborah Ann Plunkett, nephew Sean Plunkett, niece Tara Plunkett, and his second wife Katherine “Kitty” (nee Blake). John is survived by his grandnieces Nina Plunkett of San Francisco CA and Margot Plunkett of Santa Barbara CA and their mother Mary Theresa Plunkett (nee Lodel) of Scottsdale AZ. John was born in Austin MN where he graduated from Pacelli High School in 1965. He received a BA in Political Science from St. Mary’s College in Winonah MN in 1969. He married Patricia “Patty” Lee Voight on 18 Jan. 1969 in Hennepin County, Minnesota and they divorced on 20 Dec. 1971. John served in the National Guard and received a J.D. from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul MN in 1973. Upon graduation from law school John began his legal career at IDS leasing in Minneapolis where he met Kitty Blake, and they married 23 Oct. 1976 at Ft Snelling, Minnesota. When John’s IDS subsidiary was sold, John and Kitty relocated with it to San Diego CA. Thereafter they remained in San Diego where John worked for a variety of leasing companies until his retirement. John was a talented author of the captivating science fiction novel “Showdown Between Two Suns”. His literary contributions touched the hearts of many leaving behind a legacy of creativity and imagination. A Celebration of John’s life was held in San Diego on July 13, 2024. We find solace in the joy his optimism and good humor brought to our lives. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Mayo Clinic for cancer research.
