Julie Ann Wood, 71

Julie Ann (McAlister) Wood, aged 71, of Mapleview, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Austin, surrounded by her family.

Julie was born on May 15, 1953, to parents Donald and Delores McAlister. Being one of seven children, she sure had the personality to hold her own. Growing up, Julie was never afraid to climb the tallest trees, play football or baseball with the boys, or play pranks on her dad. She was a vibrant young woman with enough spunk to go around.

Julie married John Wood in 1973 and shared 43 years of marriage until his passing in 2016. Together, they enjoyed bowling, hanging out with friends and family, and frequenting the Mapleview Lounge. They welcomed two children early in their marriage, Shannon Marie and Chad Anthony. Julie loved more than anything to have cookouts on the deck with all her family. Her love extended to her honorary daughter, Kelly Seys, who was her long-time caregiver of over 34 years. It was because of Kelly that Julie was able to stay in her home with her beloved dog until the time of her passing.

Julie faced life’s challenges head-on, living courageously with Multiple Sclerosis and Lupus, among countless other health issues. Despite her struggles, she remained a beacon of positivity and resilience.

Before the M.S. took over, Julie relished simple pleasures like crocheting, playing bingo, and going down the road to her parents home every morning for coffee. Toward the end, her hobbies included watching the Hallmark channel, soaking up the sun, and watching her dog, Jerry, play with his pan. She also cherished every moment with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spoiling them every chance she got.

Julie is survived by her daughter, Shannon (Dennis) Bentzin; son, Chad (Sara) Wood; honorary daughter, Kelly Seys; grandsons, Tyler (Chelle) Bentzin and Mason Wood; granddaughters, Mackenzie (Grant) Frazier, Alixandra (Austin) Wood, Madison Wood, Peyton Wood, and Breylynn Wood; great-grandsons and great-granddaughters; sisters, Katherine (Simon) Hancock, and Rhonda (Marv) Eckert; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Wood; brother, Randy McAlister; sisters, Wanda, Linda, and Patty; and her parents, Donald and Delores McAlister.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, July 11, 2024 at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary with the Reverend Dale Christiansen officiating.
