Leonard Charles Rollins, 81

Leonard Charles Rollins died July 5, 2024, at Field Crest Care Center. Leonard (81) was born on the family farm in rural Weaver, Minnesota to Leonard Henry Rollins and Louise Alice Rollins (Schleicher) on March 13, 1943.

He grew up helping out on the farm and continued living there until graduating from Wabasha High School and Winona State University. He married Jolene Ann Rollins (Roe) on June 12, 1965.

Leonard and Jolene moved to Hayfield in the fall of 1966, and Leonard started teaching at Hayfield High School. Leonard taught Science and Math in the school district for 34 years before retiring in 2000. He was a favorite teacher, coach, and bus driver for the Hayfield district as well as the voice of the Hayfield Vikings in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Leonard was very active within the community volunteering his time with both the Hayfield Lions for 57 years and with the Hayfield Ambulance crew for 27 years. Leonard spent several years managing the community pool and skating rink. He and Jolene are members of the First Presbyterian Church in Hayfield. In 1987, the city of Hayfield honored Leonard and Jolene’s impact to the community by naming them Hayfield Citizens of the Year.

Leonard loved working on the family farm, continuing to work with his father on weekends and during the summer until his father died in 1984. He continued running the family farm until his retirement in 2000. Leonard then worked for Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes.

Leonard loved vacationing and fishing with his family at the family cabin on Hammal Lake near Aitkin, MN. He and Jolene would host many friends and family trips at the lake. He was an avid sports fan following the Hayfield Vikings, as well as the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; Leonard H. Rollins and Louise A. Rollins, and his sister Barbara J. Kelm.

Leonard is survived by his wife Jolene, son Leonard (Lisa) Rollins, daughter Heather (Kyle) Eggler, four grandchildren; Ashley (James) Dahl, Jonathan Rollins (Kelli Myers), Kristen Eggler, Melanie Eggler (Jesse Carpenter), great grandson Sawyer Dahl, brother John Rollins, sister Louise Smith, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Czaplewski Family Funeral Home, 501 2nd St NW in Hayfield from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday July 10th, 2024. Service will be 11:00 am Thursday July 11th, 2024 at The First Presbyterian Church of Hayfield, 109 Main St in Hayfield, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery in Hayfield, MN.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Hayfield Ambulance, Field Crest Care Center, First Presbyterian Church and /or Trinity Lutheran Church of Hayfield.
