It’s been an unusually tough summer for the Austin Post 91 Legion baseball team, but the team did show some positive signs as they lost to Rochester Century 7-5 in Marcusen Park Thursday.

Post 91 (0-6 overall) was using its sixth different lineup of the season in a summer that’s been marred by a flood that shut down Marcusen for two weeks, rainouts and lineup inconsistency.

Despite having a lot go wrong, Post 91 was able to do some things right as they rallied to score three runs and pull within 7-5 in the bottom of the sixth. Nick Robertson and Logyn Brooks each delivered sacrifice flies in the rally and Sam Oelfke had a two-out RBI single.

“I love how we played tonight,” Post 91 head coach Joe Ciola said. “They kept playing the game and they didn’t stop, even when we had our bad inning. You’ve got to play til the last out and I believe we did that tonight.”

Robertson struck out five in five and one thirds innings, while allowing three earned runs. Century took a 7-2 lead in the top of the third when it cleared the bases and scored three times on a play where Austin committed two errors.

Austin has three more regular season games remaining before the playoffs begin.

“It’s been a tough summer with the weather and it’s been tough with players,” Ciola said. “We haven’t had the same lineup once and we haven’t had the same guys in the dugout once. Our goal right now is to build momentum and get ready for the playoffs.”
