Pay It Forward will host its second annual car show on Aug. 31, in an effort to raise money for the organization that remodels the interiors of homes for people in need.

The car show, which was actually part of the Pay It Forward’s benefit last year, will be held from 2- 7 p.m. at Lafayette Park and feature cash prizes for vehicles, music and food vendors along with over 20 craft vendors.

“We thought we would make a big thing,” said Gina Grundmeier. “Try to make it a community event.”

In its first year, the show was added because of the 1950s theme of the benefit, however, it was brought to Grundmeier’s attention that because of the time of year that it might be better to split the two events.

Thus, the decision was made to hold them separately with the car show being moved to Labor Day weekend and the benefit to be held on Oct. 19 at the Austin Country Club. So far Grundmeier said the response has been good.

“I think last year we had about 60 cars. I was hoping for 50,” she said. “It was just word of mouth and sporadic last year. We’re hoping for 150 this year given the feedback we’ve received.”

Grundmeier said the event has set a goal of hopefully raising $5,000 from the event, which will also include the ability to donate directly to Pay It Forward.

The fee to enter is $20 per car and awards for Judges Choice, People’s Choice, Best Custom Paint, Best Car and Best Truck. Music will also be provided by Alonzo Steel and Mason Pacholl.

Grundmeier is hoping to provide a final summer blowout for people and families with the car show.

“I think people like to come out and they enjoy seeing them whether it’s a classic car or new car,” she said. “These people with classic cars or newer cars spend a lot of time keeping them up.”
