The Austin Park and Recreation Department and the Austin Minnesota Area Pickleball Association are teaming up to use Packer Arena for public open pickleball for all area residents.
Packer Arena has enough room for four courts and it will host pickleball from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
Play will be held in Packer Arena from this week until Oct. 6. Players of all skill levels and ages are welcome to play.
There is no charge to play, but a suggest free will donation of $5 will go to the AMAPA toward a fund to help the city build outdoor pickleball courts in Austin.
The AMPA is a new 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organized to help promote pickleball, provide instruction, offer events and work toward an outdoor pickleball complex in Austin. Anyone interested in joining the association can visit www.amapa.club for more information.
