John Felten, 92

John Francis Felten, 92, of Rose Creek, Minnesota, passed away Friday, August 2, 2024 at Sacred Heart Care Center in Austin.

John was born May 20, 1932 in Nevada Township, near Rose Creek, Minnesota to John B. and Elizabeth (Wagner) Felten. He attended school in Rose Creek through 8th grade before leaving to help his father on the family farm. He also helped on his neighbor’s farms and helped build the “town” of Rose Creek. On May 8, 1954, John married Barbara Joanne Dunlop at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. In addition to farming, John bought and sold heifers under the Felten Cattle Exchange.

He was a life-long member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and sang with the choir. He also enjoyed singing with the Forte Milers. John was a lifetime member of the Rose Creek Booster Club, a member of the Mower County Senior Center and the Knights of Columbus.

John loved spending time with family and friends, playing cards, fishing, hunting, making apple pies, and going to the Senior Center. At age 77, one of his greatest achievements was winning the dead lift at the WABDL World Record in Reno Nevada in 2009, for lifting 391.2 pounds, for which he still holds the record in his age group.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandsons, Matthew Felten, and Devon Felten; great granddaughter, Quinlynn Reinartz; sister, Rosella (Raymond Gerber and Leonard Aanonson) Gerber; brothers, Harold (Beverly) Felten, LaVerne (Jane) Felten, Edward (Deloris and Sybil) Felten, and Arnold Felten; brothers-in-law, Joseph Carroll and Robert Campbell.

John is survived by his wife, Barbara Felten, Rose Creek, MN; children, Thomas (Deborah) Felten, Rose Creek, MN, Susan (William) Sandve, Austin, TX, Cathy (Dale) Flak, Decorah, IA, Peggy (Thomas) Mayrose, Le Mars, IA, Steven (Dee) Felten, Rose Creek, MN, William (Rosemary) Felten, Austin, MN, Mark (Sheri) Felten, Rose Creek, MN, Jane Wall, Mankato, MN, John (Patricia) Felten, Adams, MN, Ann (Brian) Reinartz, Rose Creek, MN, and Kristine (Paul) Skjeveland, Mankato, MN; 33 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren; sister, Dolores Carroll Campbell, Menomonee Falls, WI; sister-in-law, Linda Felten, Rose Creek, MN; nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Friday, August 9th at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father Jim Berning officiating. Visitation will be at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary on Thursday from 4:00-7:00 pm and at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday morning. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
