The National Weather Service this week confirmed a pair of weak tornadoes touched down east of Austin, a part of the severe weather that swept through the area Monday night.
The first tornado was on the ground for just two minutes from 8:18 to 8:20 p.m. on Monday and peaked at 75 mph. The max width of the tornado was 30 yards.
According to the NWS the storm was confined mainly to a farm field, which started just off Interstate 90 to the north and ran at a northeasterly angle next to 610th Avenue.
There was some tree damage reports on a farm where the tornado first touched down.
The second tornado touched down not long after five miles north of Taopi and was on the ground from 8:43 p.m. to 8:48 p.m.
That storm had peak winds of 70 mph and was on the ground through open fields for just over two miles with a width of 70 yards.
This storm was located through satellite data and no damage was reported.
Taopi suffered a direct hit from a tornado in 2022, which damaged or destroyed several homes in the small community.
