Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

September is National Library Card Sign Up Month. Do you have your Austin Public Library Card? If not, what are you waiting for? Your public library is a great source of information, recreation and community. On top of having the most current books available to check out, we also have puzzles, board games, telescopes and other items that can be borrowed. An Austin Public Library card also gives you access to online resources such as:

• Kanopy, a free video streaming service for films, documentaries and TV; Online searchable access to the Austin Daily Herald from 1861-2016; Mango, a free online language-learning system covering 71 languages; Little Pim, an easy-to-use and fun language learning tool designed for babies, toddlers and preschoolers.

• Job search help through CareerOneStop, where you can get tips on updating your resume and writing a cover letter, find practice for interviews, and explore career options

Email newsletter signup

• Online drivers manuals in English and Spanish, as well as practice tests for car, CDL and motorcycle licenses in Minnesota

• Libby, our most popular app, where you can access ebooks and audiobooks from three different library systems

• Teen Book Cloud and TumbleBook Library which provides ebook and audiobook content specifically for the younger crowds

And there’s more! Sept. 13-22 is Welcoming Week in Austin. Come to the library each day to sample candy from a different country. On Sept. 17, from 1-3 p.m., stop in to see The Saint John’s Bible and learn about all the international designs found in that amazing work of art.

Last but not least, Sept. 22-28 is National Banned Books Week. The theme this year is “Freed Between the Lines.” Come to the library to see our display on intellectual freedom and learn how censorship poses a threat to that freedom, along with many other rights.

Don’t miss out. Join the excitement at your Austin Public Library!
