Marlett “Pete” Peter Hines Jr., age 78, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024, at his home in Austin surrounded by his loving family. Pete was born July 9, 1946, in Austin, Minnesota to Marlett and Alma (Christofferson) Hines. Pete attended Austin High School and graduated in 1965. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1966 and was a medic. During his time serving his country, he was awarded many medals including the Purple Heart Award and the Bronze Medal. Pete was honorably discharged in 1968. He married the love of his life, Jennel at Crane Community Chapel in 1968, and together they were blessed with three children. During his working career, he worked at Walman’s Optical in Austin, Hormel Foods and Farmstead. Pete enjoyed fishing, hunting, yard work, and loved to “putz” around in the garden. He enjoyed watching the Twins, Vikings, college football, and basketball. Pete made sure his family would never forget that he was the first winner of his annual family NCAA basketball bracket. Most of all he found most enjoyment spending time with family.
Pete is survived by his wife, Jennel Hines; children, Connie (Neil) Notermann of Mason City, Iowa, Tammy (Gary) Wallace of Austin, Minnesota, Kari (Tom) Wilson of Mankato, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jim (Barb) Hines, Charlie (Pam) Hines, and Mike (Connie) Hines; sister-in-law, Kathy Hines. Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Marlett and Alma Hines; and brother, Keith Hines.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at Crane Community Chapel in Austin, Minnesota. The visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Austin and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
