Upon picking up today’s paper, you probably noticed the story we have running regarding the solar project that Games People Play have undertaken in order to be more environmentally conscious.
The 84kW capacity project has arrayed panels across the entirety of the roof and has already generated impressive results since it was commissioned on Aug. 5.
Through an app connected to the project, GPP has generated 12.5MW of energy, saved $1,400 and has taken nine tons of carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere.
They’ve also taken the first steps in energy sustainability as the project is expected to fill GPP’s energy needs over the decades to come.
This is no small feat by a small business, but it nevertheless sets them up as a model for other businesses thinking about doing the same thing.
Its current building offers a perfect opportunity to set the panels up in order to draw on the energy of the sun and the savings will help GPP to thrive, not to mention being able to give back by selling excess energy back to Austin Utilities.
This is a win on multiple levels and it’s worth commending GPP on taking this step.
We understand that this won’t be for everybody, but we hope that smaller businesses will at least follow GPP’s lead and look into the possibilities of solar.
The fact of the matter is that relying on fossil fuels is a study of time. It’s a finite resource. But solar and wind contribute to a cleaner planet and as these technologies get better, they will only increase the efficiency in which energy will be collected and dispersed.
It’s a bright future for GPP, its partners and customers, but it can be a bright future for all of us if more businesses follow this lead.
