During its meeting Tuesday morning, commissioners with the Mower County Board of Commissioners heard about a loan program through the Small Business Association where money can go toward helping people affected by storm damage.

Specifically, the storms in question were those that took place between June 16 and July 4. Mower County is one of several counties where people can apply for both economic and physical damage to property.

The deadline to apply for physical damage loans is Sept. 30, while those applying for economic damages can apply as late as April 29, 2025.

“Sometimes it’s hard for a business or non profit organization to see if it’s been affected by economic injury,” said SBA Public Affairs Specialist Arleace Green. “We give them that time to be able to evaluate to see if they have been impacted.”

Interest rates for the loans are as follows:

Physical Damage Loan Types

• Home Loans: 2.688% up to 5.375%

• Business Loans: 4% up to 8%

• Non-profit Organizations: 3.250%

Economic Injury Loan Types

• Businesses and Small Agricultural Cooperatives: 4%

• Non-profit Organizations: 3.250%

For physical damages, businesses and nonprofit organizations can apply for up to $2 million while homeowners can go as high as $500,000 and renters $100,000.
