Anthony F. Slowinski, 96

Anthony Francis Slowinski, age 96, of Austin, Minnesota, formerly of Lyle, passed away on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Good Samaritan Society in Albert Lea. Anthony was born November 28, 1927, in Armstong, Iowa to John and Stella Slowinski. During his childhood he resided in Iowa and southern Minnesota.

On September 7, 1953, he was united in marriage to Patricia Mary Veerkamp at St. Columbanus Church in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. Together they made their home in Austin, Minnesota and Lyle, Minnesota.

Anthony was employed at Hormel Foods at a very young age before enlisting in the U.S. Navy for 3 years to serve in WWII. Upon discharge, he returned to Austin to continue working at Hormel Foods where he retired after being employed there for 42 years. Anthony not only worked full-time at Hormel Foods, he operated his own flooring business installing flooring in many homes and businesses in the Austin area. He also enjoyed living and working on the farm in rural Lyle. After all of his children were grown, he and Pat moved back to Austin. He continued to help lay flooring until he was 80 years old when he decided he would retire. Anthony also enjoyed keeping busy collecting and restoring pedal tractors.

Anthony was a founding member of St. Edward’s Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. He was an active member at Queen of Peace Church in Lyle, Minnesota and then at St. Augustine Catholic Church, Austin, Minnesota.

Anthony was a very faithful man and saw the good in everyone. He always had an open door. His greatest joy was his family. His favorite times were when the family would all gather together. We will all miss him dearly – especially his soft smile.
