Austin Community Scholarship Committee awards $54,000 for 2024-25

The Austin Community Scholarship Committee recently announced that scholarships totaling $54,000 have been awarded to 27 local students for the academic year starting this fall 2024.
The students to whom awards were made and their indicated college of choice includes: Kennedy Bell, University Missouri/Columbia; Lauryn Bell, Winona State University; Gadisa Birhanu, Minnesota State Mankato; Andrew Clausman, North Central University; Wren Clinefelter, Minneapolis College Art & Design; Catlin Drees, Benedictine College, KS; Molly Garry, College St. Benedict; Kendall Gilster, University of Minnesota Rochester; Ava Jovaag, University of Minnesota Carlton; Piper Kellner, Luther; Blake Klingfus, Iowa State University, Samantha Krueger, University of Minnesota Twins Cities; Jackson Marsh, St. Olaf College; Grace Mayer, University of Iowa; Kyle Mayer, University of Minnesota Mpls.; Kaden Murley, University of Minnesota Duluth; Thyna Nguyen, Minnesota State Mankato; Alex Petrik, University of Wisc. Eau Claire; Blake Petrik, University Wisc. LaCrosse; Jennifer Ramieriz Garcia, Winona State University; Andrew Sayles, University Wisc. LaCrosse; Joseph Schammel, University of Minnesota Mpls; Katie Shin, University of MinnesotaMpls.; Nadia Vaughn, Bemidji State University; Renata Vaughn, University of Wisconsin LaCrosse; Joseph Walker, University of Minnesota Minneapolis; Everett Wynn, St. Cloud State University
With these announced awards, over $1,437,000 has been given to over 1,034 students since the first awards were made in 1962.
Sources of funds for the awards include former scholarship recipients, generous contributions from individuals, memorial gifts, and Estate bequests. Contributions also have come from local businesses and organizations and the Hormel Foundation.
The scholarship program is carried on without significant expense, most administration and professional services being donated.
Scholarships are available to students entering their Junior or Senior year of college and who are candidates for a degree at an accredited college in the United States. Recipients may pursue any curriculum leading to a degree. Applications are available in May and must be made each year. Applicants or their parents must be residents of Mower County, MN; London Township in Freeborn County, MN; or Union or Otranto Townships in Mitchell County, Iowa.
