Cheryl Cherney, (nee: Wilder), passed away peacefully at her home in Adams, Minnesota on Thursday, September 26, 2024 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Cheryl was born July 15, 1955 in Osage, Iowa and lived her early years in the Otranto, Iowa area. She attended schools in the St. Ansgar area until her father moved the family to Illinois for work just prior to her senior year of high school. Cheryl graduated from Kaneland High School in Illinois in 1973.
It was in Illinois where Cheryl met her first husband. They had two children together and were later divorced. In November of 1984, Cheryl was living in Naples, Florida and it was there that she met her true soulmate. Cheryl began dating Michael Cherney and they were married in November of 1987. Their union produced two more children, bringing their family to six. In June of 1995, the family relocated from Florida back to Iowa to be closer to Cheryl’s family. Cheryl and Michael settled in Adams, Minnesota which was very close to her family in Otranto, Iowa. They both remained in Adams ever since.
Cheryl had an extensive background in sewing and worked making custom draperies and upholstery for interior designers while living in Naples. Upon moving home, Cheryl began working with the Cooperative Response Center in Austin, Minnesota where she was eventually promoted to a supervisory position. After ten years, Chery left C.R.C. to take a position in Consumer Relations for the Hormel Company. Cheryl remained with Hormel until her retirement in 2019.
Cheryl had a passion for sewing and quilting and would attend many retreats where she could enjoy her hobby. In addition to riding the Shooting Star Bike Trail for relaxation, Cheryl enjoyed reading, outings and especially spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends. Cheryl belonged to a gourmet club and several quilting groups over the years and briefly taught Sunday School at Little Cedar Lutheran Church in Adams. Cheryl’s presence will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Doyle Wilder; both maternal and paternal grandparents; sons, Aaron Bradstreet and Matthew Bradstreet; and niece, Melissa Jahr.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Michael Cherney of Adams; son, Jesse (Aubrie) Cherney of Lake Crystal, MN; daughter, Kristen Cherney of Adams; four grandchildren, Desmond, Flynn, Weldon and Matthew; mother, Marilyn Wilder of Otranto, IA; sister, Diane (John) Jahr of Otranto, IA; brothers, Steve (Mary) Wilder of Otranto, IA, and Gary Wilder of Otranto, IA; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
