Kasey Lyn Cotter, age 50, of Austin MN passed away on Thursday, October 10th, 2024 in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Kasey was one-in-a-million, in the best way, and ultimately in one of the toughest ways as she fought a 2-year battle with a very rare and aggressive type of cancer.

Kasey was born on July 5th, 1974, to Terri Peterson and Donny Finnegan, and raised in Austin, MN by her mother Terri and stepfather Dean Peterson. Kasey spent her life in Austin, where she held many friendships and touched many people’s lives. Kasey lovingly raised her two children, Kyler and Abby, and often remarked that being their mother was the purpose and greatest joy of her life. In 2006, Kasey met Casey Cotter, the love of her life who she married in 2010. Kasey and Casey, often known together as “KC”, shared many years of adventures, love, and happiness together. Together they enjoyed spending their summers in northern Minnesota on Leech Lake with family and friends, crop-checking their farm fields, attending concerts, taking many vacations to beautiful places, and spending time with their grandkids. Kasey worked at Riverland Community College for 16 years where she developed many lasting friendships and relationships that stayed with her long after she left. In 2014, she moved on from her fulfilling career at RCC to help manage the Cotter family farm and repair business, a role she made look effortless and enjoyed greatly.

Kasey was often thought of as a pillar of love and kindness to her friends, family, and strangers alike. She poured her heart into those she loved, found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and had a true fun-loving spirit who liked to live life to the fullest. Kasey leaves behind her husband, Casey Cotter; her parents, Dean and Terri Peterson; her children, Kyler (Chelsea) Petersen, Abby (Zach) Vierkandt, and step-children Ashtin and Jordan Cotter; her beloved grandchildren Lilly, Winnie, Emmie, Beckham, Carson, and Wren; her siblings, PJ Finnegan, Kallie Peterson, and Wendy Dingley; and many nieces and nephews, additional family members, and dear friends. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
