When Minnesota voters go to the polls Tuesday, they may be surprised to find a State Constitutional Amendment on their ballots. Not surprising since this amendment has received virtually no coverage by state or local media. It’s an amendment to reauthorize part of state lottery funds to go to the Environment and Natural Resources Trust Fund.
I’m not writing to encourage or discourage anyone from voting for or against the amendment. What I am writing for is to encourage everyone to please take the time to learn and understand specifically what the amendment will do. Because the language in the amendment as it will read on your ballot is misleading and deceptive. Among other things left out of the ballot description, it will completely change what these funds can be used for, and more importantly, who will control where these funds go. Please take the time to fully understand this amendment before you go to the polls Tuesday so that you can be confident that you’re making an informed choice.
