GRAND MEADOW – The Southland football team used a balanced attack to end their regular season on a high note when they beat Grand Meadow 48-6 Wednesday night.

The Rebels (4-4 overall) were able to move the ball through the ground and the air as sophomore quarterback Henry Wiste threw for 127 yards and three scores, while running for 97 yards and a TD.

Southland senior Kaleb Yunker was Wiste’s top target as he hauled in four passes for 60 yards, including a 15-yard TD with 1:25 left in the first half to put Southland up 27-0.

“We were pretty locked in. We just wanted to put it on them, show everybody what we could do and score a lot of points,” Yunker said. “The young kids on our team worked hard all season and they’re real players. We think they can be great and they’re showing it.”

The Rebels put an exclamation point on the win when Wiste found junior Cameron Bryan for a three-yard score. Bryan usually plays nose tackle for Southland and he celebrated the score by doing “the griddy” in front of his team after the game.

Southland junior Royce Jax said it was a great moment for the team.

“It’s always fun to see a big man score a touchdown, especially (Bryan). He always brings the energy to practice and seeing him score makes it ten times better,” Jax said. “We knew that if we started fast tonight we’d keep it the whole game. We needed to start fast and finish fast.”

Dalton Pischke put GM (1-7 overall) on the scoreboard when he scored on a one-yard quarterback sneak to bring the Superlarks within 34-6 in the third quarter.

Southland had a quick response when freshman Cael Smith returned the following kick off 74 yards for a score to put the Rebels up 41-6.
