Ronald Paul Merten, 84

Ronald Paul Merten, 84, of Rose Creek, Minnesota, passed away at his home on Monday, October 7, 2024.

Ron was born on June 1, 1940 in Johnsburg, Minnesota to Edward and Olivia (Mullenbach) Merten. He graduated from Rose Creek High School in 1959.

Ron married Carol Jean Stanton on December 28, 1963, at Saint Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. Soon after, Ron and Carol moved to the family farm where they resided up to the time of his death. In 2023, Ron and Carol celebrated 60 years of marriage.

Ron farmed for over 60 years with his family, which included crop farming and raising dairy cattle. Ron used the farm as a tool to teach his children the value of hard work and commitment.

Ron was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek, Minnesota. Ron enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his four grandchildren, woodworking, fixing things for others, and riding his 4-wheeler around the farm and visiting neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Beatrice and Gladys; brothers, Clarence, Kenneth, and Donald; brothers-in-law, Francis Healy, Larry White, and Norvard Nalan, Stanley Stanton, Roger Stanton and sisters-in-law, Catherine Merten and Norma Stanton.

Ron is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Julie (Tom) Grabow, Woodbury, MN; sons, Mark Merten, Rose Creek, MN; Michael (Christy) Merten of Lincoln, NE; grandchildren, Jordan (Sarah) Grabow; Katie, Robby, and Ellie Merten; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Alexander Grabow; sister, Barbara Nalan, Grand Rapids, MN; brother, Harold (Judy) Merten, Austin, MN; sisters-in-law, Sharon Merten and DeeAnna Stanton; many nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Rose Creek with Father James Berning officiating. Visitation will be held at the Adams Funeral Home from 5-7 pm on Monday and at the church one hour before the service on Tuesday. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery.
