APD investigating crash into house, possible stolen vehicle

The Austin Police Department is investigating an incident early Wednesday morning that may have also involved a stolen vehicle.

According to a release from Austin Police Department Chief David McKichan, police were dispatched to a report of a 2014 Hyundai Sonata that left the road on Ninth Avenue SW at around 2:30 a.m., striking a residence and a parked vehicle. Damage to the home includes a set of wooden steps/deck and a downspout.

The occupant or occupants fled the scene prior to officer arrival, leaving the vehicle at the scene. All identification and location attempts were unsuccessful.

Later in the morning, at around 4 a.m., another report was taken by APD where the reporter claimed the same or a similar vehicle was stolen from them overnight.

McKichan’s release stated there are no suspects at this time and that those who brought in the stolen vehicle report had yet to provide documentation showing ownership of the vehicle involved in the crash on Ninth Avenue SW.
