For 22 years, Tony Paez has been in the graphic design game, plying his trade in Texas before moving up to Austin.
Despite selling all of his equipment when moving to Austin, Paez decided to invest all over again and get a fresh start.
“When we moved I sold everything,” Paez said Thursday morning. “It’s like starting over again. It wasn’t in my plans to start again doing the same thing. Then, I had all of this experience from all these years and I didn’t want to start a new, different business.”
Bacon Multimedia, LLC offers a wide array of services from picture and collage printing, graphic design, banner printing and more and all of this work comes from one of the most unique locations in Austin.
Paez has been based in the little building located at 112 Oakland Avenue East, directly across from the Austin Fire Department, for three months now.
For Paez, it’s a prime location from which to house his reemerging business.
“Since we’ve moved here I would pass on the street and saw it,” he said. “I didn’t know what kind of business was here before. I saw it and I always thought it looked kind of strange, but I liked the location and liked the size.”
From within the small building, Paez has been able to set up shop with a number of different printers arranged for a number of different jobs including a laser printer and a laminator; an expansion from when he was taking jobs out of this home before moving this location.
“You buy one thing and you need three more,” Paez said jokingly.
Paez’s work initially began in Texas including work for a number of restaurants in the San Antonio area by helping design and print menus while at the same time printing, “window graphics, banners, flyers, business cards,” he said.
“Right now, my goal is to do the most I can from this location,” Paez added. “To do everything fast.”
While Paez said he can do most everything a customer might desire or need, he also has third-party connections that can help him with jobs he can’t handle in house.
The only drawback is that Paez said he stresses when can’t get the order to the client as fast as he would like.
“It stresses me out a lot to have to send jobs to my third party partners, but I don’t have the facilities and equipment they have so I have to do it,” he said. “What stresses me a lot is the time. Sometimes I have to tell the clients they’ll have to wait five to eight days to have their product here.”
Still, Paez said he loves what he does as much as he loves the location he’s in. Part of that love is being able to help the customers in understanding the process and helping them get exactly what they want.
He also wants people to know that he can take care of every step under one roof.
“I want to help people understand the process,” he said.
Another part of that process is being able to get people a product at a reasonable price. In getting to that point, Paez works to keep things at market price and while at times his prices might be a little higher, he prides himself in being able to do the design and printing all under one roof.
“Customer service is what I explain sometimes to other people,” Paez said, going on to explain that most places just print products and don’t help with design. “They aren’t going to do graphic design. That’s the extra that I’m offering and now I have the printers so I can do that.”
