Cheryl A. Venem, 77

Cheryl A. Venem, 77, of Albert Lea, passed away on November 9, 2024, at the Mayo Clinic in Mankato, MN.

Born on June 8, 1947, in Austin, MN, Cheryl was a daughter of the late Chester and Doris (Ausen) Johnson. Growing up in Albert Lea, Cheryl graduated from Albert Lea High School and eventually found her place at the former King Company in Owatonna, dedicating over 20 years to her work there.

On October 13, 1984, Cheryl exchanged vows with her beloved Ronald “Ronnie” Venem at Ascension Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. Together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Cheryl’s commitment to her faith led her to be actively involved in her church, serving in the Esther Circle group and WELCA. Her passion for baking extended to her church community, where her delicious treats were enjoyed at various events.

Known for her warmth and sociability, Cheryl was a member of the Red Hat Society, where she forged connections and friendships effortlessly. She had a knack for hosting gatherings, especially during the holidays, where her joyous spirit and culinary talents shone. Her lefse was a reflection of her Scandinavian roots and a testament to her culinary skill.

Cheryl’s love for travel often took her to visit her family, creating lasting memories and strengthening bonds. Her fondness for shopping and love for a good joke added to her vibrant personality, making her presence a light in the lives of those around her.

Those left to cherish Cheryl’s memory include, her siblings, Terry, Randi Johnson, Kristi (Brian) Vandergrift, and Brenda (Al “Minnow”) Brooks; step-children, Mark (Sara) Venem, Todd (Julie) Venem, and Beth (Jimmy) Jacobs; grandchildren, Julie (Nathan), Kari (Mark), Heather (Lucas), Meggin (Dane), Ryan (BreAnn), Madalyn, and Camille; several great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews, Andrea (Scott) Lyman, Darrick Johnson, Kyle Johnson, Al Brooks III, Tami (Brandon) Schaefer, and Matthew Brooks; several great-nieces and nephews; an aunt, Madalen Ormsby; numerous extended family members, and countless friends.

In addition to her parents, Chester and Doris Johnson, Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband of 25 years, Ronnie Venem; father and mother-in-law, Chris and Arlida Venem; her special companion, Molly; and numerous other in-laws.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Ascension Lutheran Church, with a visitation beginning at 1:00PM. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea. Services will be livestreamed and can be viewed by visiting www.BonnerupFuneralService.com
