David James Hawkins, 82

David James Hawkins, 82, of Austin, MN passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, MN.

David was born on July 7, 1942, in New Haven, MN to James and Mildred (Sykes) Hawkins. He served in the US Marines from 1960-1964. Upon his discharge from the Marines, he founded D.R., Inc., an amusement and vending company in Rochester, MN with his brother, Richard. Dave enjoyed his many years working in the vending and amusement industry, meeting new people everywhere he went. Many of Daves lifelong friends were made through his work connections and the different associations he belonged to. He was a member of the Pleasant Grove #22 Masonic Lodge, Osman Temple, The Shriners, and The Rochester Shrine Cycle Patrol. Dave held many different positions within these organization. Dave was also an active member over the years with the Minnesota Operators of Music and Amusements, the Amusement and Music Operators Association, Valley National Eightball Association, and the National Dart Association. When not working, Dave enjoyed riding his motorcycle, socializing and talking smart all over the countryside, and not cooking at home.

Dave married Lavonne Anderson on August 28, 1967, together they welcomed their son Jason in 1971. Dave later married Ann Hodge, they enjoyed traveling and many different adventures together living on Lake Zumbro during their marriage.

David is survived by his son, Jason (Bridget) Hawkins of Kasson, MN and their children Aaron, Jordan, McKinzie and Madylyn; siblings, Judy Melvin of Plainview, MN, Michael (Kit) Hawkins of Oronoco, MN, and Pamela (Michael) Kanz of Rochester, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Richard Hawkins and brother-in-law Arthur Melvin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2024, at Czaplewski Family Funeral Homes, 801 7th St SE in Kasson, MN with Pastor Roger Langworthy officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to his service at the funeral home. Military honors will follow his service provided by the Kasson American Legion Post 333.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Fairview Care Center staff for the wonderful care Dave received and to Mayo Clinic Hospice for supporting Dave and our family through his final journey.
