As Giving Tuesday approaches on December 3, 2024, we at LIFE Mower County invite you to join us in making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). This global day of giving is a powerful reminder of how much we can accomplish together.
Here are four ways you can support our mission:
GIVE YOUR TIME: Volunteers are the heart of our programs and events. Your time and energy can make a real difference, whether it’s helping with recreational activities, assisting with fundraisers, or simply offering companionship to the people we serve. Learn more about volunteering at www.lifemowercounty.org/volunteer.
GIVE FINANCIALLY: Your generosity keeps our programs thriving. Donations can be made online at www.lifemowercounty.org/donate or by mailing a check to LIFE Mower County, 401 2nd Ave NE, Austin, MN 55912. Every dollar helps us continue to provide opportunities and support for our participants.
SHARE YOUR TALENT: Do you have a unique skill or creative idea? We’re always looking for fresh program concepts and passionate individuals to lead new initiatives. Your expertise could open doors for exciting opportunities within our community.
SPREAD THE WORD: Share our mission with friends and family to raise awareness about LIFE Mower County. Refer families who could benefit from our services and amplify our reach by sharing posts from our social media channels.
This Giving Tuesday, be a part of something bigger by supporting LIFE Mower County in the way that resonates most with you. Together, we can create a community where everyone belongs and thrives.

Preparing for Christmas:
Tips for families
Thanksgiving has passed, and the holiday season is here. While this time of year brings excitement and joy, it can also pose unique challenges for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) and their families. With thoughtful preparation, the holidays can be inclusive and stress-free.
Here are some key tips to help:
Create a Holiday Calendar: Use a calendar to plan activities, gatherings, and rest days. Visual aids, like picture schedules, can help individuals with I/DD anticipate and engage in holiday plans.
Set Realistic Expectations: Not every tradition works for every family. Prioritize activities that bring joy and simplify plans to make the season enjoyable for all.
Plan Sensory-Friendly Activities: For those with sensory sensitivities, opt for quieter events or create your own traditions, like baking cookies or watching holiday movies at home.
Prepare for Social Situations: Discuss gatherings in advance, practice introductions, and set boundaries for breaks during large events. A quiet space can be a helpful retreat.
Focus on Inclusion: Ensure everyone feels part of the celebrations, whether it’s decorating, playing games, or preparing a meal. Small efforts can create lasting memories.
The holidays are about connection and joy. With a little planning and flexibility, families can create a meaningful season for everyone.
