For nearly three decades, Kurt and Brenda Potach, with the help of dedicated friends and community members, have been dedicated to honor the memory of the Potach’s son Karl through their annual event “Karl’s Tourney.” Through many dedicated volunteers and those who support the event and the Karl Potach Foundation, there has been an incredible amount of work into making the annual golf tournament such a success each and every year.
This year, the generosity of this group and the community support they inspire continued as we hosted the first “Karl’s Legacy” event at The Hormel Institute in October to carry Karl’s legacy onward.
The Karl’s Legacy event was immensely successful. Thanks to donors’ generosity, $80,000 was raised to continue to support expanded pediatric cancer research at The Hormel Institute. The event also inspired The Hormel Institute to open its “Children’s Research at The Hormel Institute” fund to support new and continued research related to children’s health.
The Potachs’ efforts, inspired by the memory of their beautiful son, Karl who lost his battle to Wilms tumor cancer in 1997 at the age of four, have provided funds to support cancer research that will help advance an end to childhood cancers, giving children and their families more options and more hope and longer lives.
With this year’s gift, the Karl Potach Foundation has donated over $1 million to support pediatric cancer research at The Hormel Institute. Thanks to The Hormel Foundation’s support, every dollar can go to research to accelerate answers.
On behalf of The Hormel Institute, thank you, Kurt and Brenda Potach, and each of you who have been and will be part of Karl’s Legacy, for your unwavering dedication to changing lives and inspiring hope through the support of our research. Your generosity will positively impact lives and children for years to come.
In friendship,
Dr. Robert Clarke, Faculty
and Staff of The Hormel Institute
