Marcella A. Shimmon, 85

Marcella Audrey Shimmon, age 85, of Fridley, Minnesota, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Guardian Angels Care Center in Elk River. Marcella was born on May 7, 1939, in Austin, Minnesota, to Frederick and Audrey (Brandt) Watkins. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in education from Mankato State University. On August 25, 1960, Marcella married Bryce Shimmon. With their pilot’s licenses and a private plane, she and Bryce embarked on many adventures before settling down to start a family. They purchased their home in Fridley in 1962, and it was the nucleus of their family for 62 years. Marcella worked in public education for eight years in the Columbia Heights Public School District and was a devoted stay-at-home mom to their two daughters. As the girls grew up, she shared her love of learning by teaching preschool children at several church-affiliated daycare centers. Marcella had a life-long love of reading, history and education. She cherished time with family, friends and their church community. She also enjoyed playing piano, being in nature, sewing, and capturing life’s moments through photography.

Survivors include her devoted husband, Bryce Shimmon; her two daughters, Barbara (Michael Brenneman) Shimmon, of St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, and Lydia (Chris) Scheiber of Anoka, Minnesota; grandchildren, Joshua, Ethan, step-grandchildren Gretchen and Tiffany; brother, David (Sharry) Watkins, of Austin, Minnesota and cherished nephew and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gerald Watkins.

A private burial for Marcella will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in Austin, Minnesota, on Saturday, November 23, 2024. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Homes are assisting the family with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.worlein.com.
