Verna M. Magnuson, 92

Verna M. Magnuson, age 92, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at St. John’s Lutheran Community on Fountain Lake in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Verna Mae Jolson was born on December 13, 1931, in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, to Albert and Nellie (Lea) Jolson. As a child, Verna was very active in 4H and was an excellent seamstress. She won many awards for her work, especially through the “Sew It With Wool” competition. Verna graduated from Blooming Prairie High School in 1949. While in school she played the tuba in the band. After graduating high school, Verna worked for Harriet’s Dress Shop in Blooming Prairie and then became the head bookkeeper at the Red Oak Grove Creamery in Corning. On June 14, 1953, Verna was united in marriage to Nathan Magnuson at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church in rural Austin. She loved sewing, waterskiing, dancing, playing cards, and mowing the lawn. Verna fell in love with gardening and provided flowers to all the local care centers; she became known as the “flower lady.” She will be greatly missed.

Verna is survived by her brothers-in-law, Kenneth Magnuson and Ronald (Mary) Magnuson; sister-in-law, Judy Magnuson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Nellie; husband, Nathan; siblings, Virginia (Al) Johnson, Lyle Jolson, and Alan (Arlene) Jolson; brother-in-law, Richard Magnuson; and sister-in-law, Lois Magnuson.

Verna’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at St. John’s Lutheran Community – Meadows and Woodlands, for the wonderful care over the past three and a half years.

A funeral service for Verna will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church, rural Austin, Minnesota. The visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Red Oak Grove Lutheran Cemetery, rural Austin. Memorials are preferred to Red Oak Grove Lutheran Church. Worlein-Hoff Funeral Home in Blooming Prairie is assisting the family with arrangements.
