December can be such a busy month for so many people. There are at least 10 holidays and observances I can recall off the top of my head, and I’m sure there are many more.
At the library, we’re just as busy. The first week alone had Lego and Games Club, Read to Harper the Therapy Dog (and she was back last week), a family movie, and the Tween/Teen Crafts and Cocoa program. There’s also story time every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., winter break activities on December 30, and more. Check our website for all the latest information at www.aplmn.org.
As December is chilly, and libraries are for everyone, don’t forget our building itself is an important community resource as it is also a warming center. No matter the reason, the library is here 52 hours every week (except for holidays) for those who need a place to get out of the cold. And while you’re warming up, feel free to browse our books, relax by the fireplace, work on a puzzle, or just sit and take in the ambiance.
Additionally, we’re holding a warm blanket and clothing drive through Jan. 31. Please bring new or gently used, clean blankets, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens or socks to the library’s Service Desk and Share Warmth This Winter.
Above all, don’t forget to take a breath. Here, try it: inhale … exhale … If you’re overwhelmed, picture coming into the library for the first time. Maybe you were a child who took in everything with wonderment? There was a young child just the other day who made his first visit. He came to explore, get a couple of books (and a sticker or two), and … cake. That’s right, his young brain decided you get cake when you come to the library. And I say, “why not?” Let’s all take a minute and have some cake. Or at the very least, maybe check out a book about how to bake one.
