Property owner sustains minor injuries
The State Fire Marshal is investigating a house fire, which took place Wednesday night in rural Mower County.
According to the Mower County Sheriff’s Office, The Hayfield Fire Department and MCSO deputies responded to the 62000 block of 320th Street, Sargeant on a report of a residential house fire at around 6:30 p.m.
Upon arrival, flames were seen in the basement causing heavy smoke to fill the residence.
Brownsdale and Dexter fire departments responded for mutual aid as well as Hayfield and Dodge Center Ambulance.
Firefighters were able to contain fire damage to the area of origin, however, the amount of damage has yet to be assessed.
The property owner received minor injuries while attempting to remove personal property from the residence prior to emergency crew arrival and was subsequently transported to Mayo Health System St. Mary’s for treatment.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and remains under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s office.
Emergency crews cleared the scene at around 9 p.m.
