Several area schools have preemptively opted to call off school Tuesday ahead of the extremely cold temperatures expected early Tuesday morning and throughout the day.

Those schools include: Austin Public Schools, Pacelli Catholic Schools (Shamrock Zone will be open), Grand Meadow Public School, Lyle Public School, LeRoy-Ostrander Public School, Southland Schools and the Southern Minnesota Education Consortium.

The Mower County Senior Center will also be closed, something they do automatically when APS closes for inclement weather.

An extreme cold weather warning will be issued at 6 p.m. tonight and will go until noon on Tuesday. Wind chills could dip as far as -40 during the early morning house Tuesday.
