Joel Francis Huinker of Austin, Minnesota, passed away at the age of 72 on January 20, 2025, at his home.

Joel was born on May 19, 1952 to John and Mary Huinker (Weis), the first of six children, he graduated from Austin High in 1970 and married Paulette (Todalen) soon after. They had two sons together and later divorced.

However, he found his true calling in the nightlife scene, owning and operating bars of his own throughout his life. At Thirsty’s, Joel honed his wit, always ready with a joke, and gained countless friendships that lasted a lifetime. His charm, warmth, and humor made him unforgettable to all who knew him.

Joel’s love of music began at an early age. As a teenager, he played drums for local bands, including The Bell Hops, fueling a lifelong passion for The Blues and Rock & Roll.

In 2002, Joel met Mary (Dahl), and the two quickly formed a deep bond. They were married on Valentine’s Day in 2017. Together, they enjoyed hosting gatherings with friends and family, embarking on road trips with their beloved dogs, Ruby and Mazee, and exploring Minnesota’s state parks and scenic landscapes as well as spending time with his 3 grandchildren, who deeply adored their Grandpa Joel
