ADAMS – The Southland girls basketball team led from start to finish as they beat LeRoy-Ostrander 73-40 in Adams Monday night.

The Rebels had ten players score in the win, which saw them clear the bench during running time in the second half. Senior Jaida Sorenson, who had five points and five rebounds, said the Rebels went into Friday’s game knowing they had to play their hardest.

“We just have to go into every game thinking that we could lose if we don’t work hard. We have to push each other, no matter what,” Sorenson said. “We had to take a deep breath (early on) and calm down on offense and defense.”

Senior Benita Nolt led the Cardinals (0-16 overall) with 20 points and 10 rebounds. LO never held a lead, but it was able to stay within striking distance early on.

“Give LeRoy a lot of credit,” Southland head coach Matt Weber said. “They played hard tonight and we’ve got a lot of things we still need to work on. We tried to take away Benita, but she was

ambitious and she went at us.”

Breeley Galle had a big night for the Rebels (12-6 overall) as she finished with 14 points, six rebounds and six assists.

After going 8-18 overall, the Rebels have already surpassed last year’s win total and the last time Southland won 12 games in a season was when they went 12-12 overall in the 2019-2020 season.

Weber said the team is finding it’s confidence, but it must still learn to maintain pressure.

“We’ve learned how to win games, now we just have to learn to play a complete game,” Weber said.
