Terry Lynn Mattson (Taylor), 75, of Austin, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on December 13, 1949, in Austin to Marie “Mike” L. Taylor (Voogd) and William E. Taylor.
Terry grew up in Austin and later moved to Minneapolis, where she met her husband, David “Buddha” Mattson. While raising her family, she worked at the Star Tribune. Following her divorce, Terry returned to Austin and worked at Hormel while teaching Sunday School at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She later opened “Grandma Terry’s Daycare” in her home. Terry was incredibly proud of her sobriety, achieving around 40 years of clean living.
Her Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing comfort and guidance throughout her journey. A lifelong animal lover, Terry cherished her time on her hobby farm. She was a skilled knitter and spinner of wool, creating beautiful handmade items. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping adventures. Before her cancer diagnosis last spring, Terry dedicated much of her time to supporting her granddaughter Janay’s dance endeavors across the state and cheering on the Austin Bruins Hockey team.
Terry was preceded in death by her mother, Marie (1996), and her father, William (1977). She is survived by her four children: Jason (Heidi) Mattson, Jeremy (Lorena) Mattson, Michael (Manuela) Mattson, and Sara Williams; twelve grandchildren: Travis, Quentin, David, Mircedes, Jara, Janay, Devon, Demarjae, Octabrian, Bianca, Annissia, and Alex; and four great-grandchildren: Easton, Aphira, Veida, and Novaleia.
