Thumbs up for cancer research. On Tuesday night, Business After Hours was held at The Hormel Institute supporting the kick-off for the 15th annual Paint the Town Pink. It was a celebration of progress and continues a tradition of raising important funds for the further progression of research being done at The Hormel Institute.
Thumbs up for planning. On Wednesday night, an open house was held that let people get a further look into the process the city and county are embarking on in order to develop their 20-year comprehensive plans. While each entity will have its own plan, they are working the process together to further define goals across those 20 years that will have benefits for both the City of Austin and Mower County.
Thumbs down for legislative session’s start. At some point, somebody is going to have to be the adult in the room when it comes to the Minnesota legislature. More and more, it’s mirroring the dysfunction we’re finding in Washington, D.C. There are challenges and struggles, but those we elect to represent us need to stop finger pointing and the postering and get to work on meaningful governance. Anything less than that only hurts the people legislators claim to serve.
Thumbs up for major retirement. It may seem a little counterintuitive to give a thumbs up to somebody who is retiring, but in this instance it’s worth recognizing the news that Jim Snee will be retiring from his position at Hormel after over 20 years with the company. Snee has provided solid leadership and has always been approachable and when it comes to benefitting Austin, he has always put the community on the pedestal it deserves.
Thumbs up for winning. This team just keeps winning. Riverland Community College, ranked No. 1 has yet to lose this year and is putting together one of the best seasons in the school’s history. There have been some close calls, but the Blue Devils keep putting wins in the win column. Be sure to check them out when you get a chance.
