A fire call Tuesday night is serving as a reminder for people to make sure their recreational fires are completely extinguished.

According to Austin Fire Chief Jim McCoy, firefighters were called to the 2100 block of First Avenue NE at around 6:30 p.m. for a fire that had gotten out of control from a fire pit that was burning an adjoining yard.

According to McCoy, a shed and fence burned along with other debris.

“It’s a reminder to make sure your fire is completely out before you go inside for the evening,” McCoy said. “It is extremely dry and windy outside.”

He also added that because of the conditions, burning is not a good idea right now.
