Council members face off for At-Large position

Wayne Goodnature is challenging incumbent Dick Chaffee to be Austin At Large City Council member.
If he wins, that means he will have to give up his current 1st Ward council position.
Goodnature has never been accused of backing away from a challenge during his time as county sheriff and as one of seven council members.
The incumbent in this race is formidable.
Chaffee served as a 2nd Ward council member before successfully seeking the At Large post.
As the city's At Large council member, he represents everyone in all precincts of every ward.
Like other incumbents, Chaffee can point to a six-year period of civic achievements in Austin.
Here are the candidates' profiles in their own words:

Profession: Computer business owner.
Why are you seeking this office?
The office of Council Member At Large is the only voting member of the Austin City Council who is elected by all of the voters in Austin. I like the idea of being a representative of all of the people in the city of Austin.
What is the top priority in the government jurisdiction you seek to serve?
Giving the people of Austin the voice they deserve in their local government.
How would you nurture the growth of that asset?
I will weigh each voting decision against the backdrop of whether I believe the decision I am about to make is in the best interest of the majority of citizens in the city of Austin. I repeat, against the backdrop of whether it is in the best interest of the majority of citizens in the city of Austin.
