Bernyce E. Peterson, 83
Bernyce E. Peterson, 83 of Blooming Prairie, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at Prairie Manor in Blooming Prairie.
She was born Dec. 20, 1918 to Gustav H. Vaith and Mabel C. Jesperson in rural Steele County. She married Helmer Peterson on Oct. 15, 1941 at First Lutheran Church parsonage.
A lifelong resident of the Blooming Prairie area, Bernyce enjoyed her garden and roses, loved her sightseeing trips with her husband Helmer and spending time with her daughter and grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church and her church circle.
Survivors include husband, Helmer of Blooming Prairie; a daughter, Janelle O'Leary of Austin; two grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Gary; her parents; and a brother, Wallace.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the funeral home and at the church on Wednesday one hour before the service.
Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church with the Reverends Richard Hegal and Heidi Heimgartner co-officiating.
Interment: First Lutheran Cemetery.

Duane Francis Horan, 80
Duane Francis Horan, 80 of Albert Lea, formerly of Ellendale, died Saturday, Oct. 26 at Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea.
He was born Nov. 5, 1921 in Jackson to John and Amelia (Unteidt) Horan. He graduated from Freeborn High School in 1940. He was a Golden Gloves boxer from 1941 to 1944. After high school he worked on a farm with his future wife's father. Horan married Corrine Bartness July 14, 1944 in Hartland.
He was in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946. He was a steeplejack in the midwest and southern states. In the 1950s his family moved to Ellendale.
Horan worked for Northern Valley Packing Corporation, AMPI and retired from Viking Chemical.
Horan raised and trained horses, belonged to the rough rider saddle club and rode in the Grand National Rodeo Parade. He enjoyed camping, fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his sons Dorrie (Delane) Horan, of Hollandale, Randy (Cindy) Horan of Austin, Ricky (Audrey) Horan, of Ellendale; daughters LaRae (Gary) Hansen, of Blooming Prairie, Teri (Jerry) Finke of Northwood, Iowa, Cynthia (Curt) Esplan of Blooming Prairie, 13 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, a brother Merle Horan of Verndale and a sister Jean Anderson of Geneva.
He was preceded in death by his wife and parents.
Visitation: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28 at the funeral home and one hour before the service Tuesday.
Service: 11 a.m. Community Lutheran Church, Geneva with the Rev. Joel Xavier officiating.
