Singing and dancing, laughter and love will take center stage at the Frank W. Bridges Theatre as the Riverland Community College Theater and Music Departments recreate Lerner and Loewe's famous musical "My Fair Lady," beginning Friday.
The story is well-known: Professor Henry Higgins, a middle-aged bachelor takes cockney flower girl Eliza Doolittle off the streets and tries to make a well-mannered lady of her.
Whether or not you know how the story ends, director Jerry Girton promises it'll be fun for everyone. "It's a great family show. It has good music, a good story, good characters. It's a great American classic musical," he says. "It's fast-moving. It's fun to watch the students who have worked so hard and the songs are so memorable."
Beth Bonnema, who plays Eliza Doolittle, agrees the show is "tons of fun. It's great, great fun. The choreography is awesome and when you watch the songs, you'll want to get up and dance. It's going to be a great show."
Performances will be held in the Frank W. Bridges Theatre at the Austin campus of Riverland Community College at 7:30 p.m., Oct. 4, 5, 9-12 and at 2 p.m., Oct. 6. Tickets are $10 each. Tickets are available at Black Bart's/Nemitz's in Austin or by calling the box office at 433-0595.
