Jason Micah Broissoit, 20, rural Dexter, was arrested on a felony warrant, charging him with criminal vehicular homicide.
Mower County Sheriff's Department deputies took Broissoit into custody at his rural Dexter home Thursday, Sept. 27, without incident.
He was ordered to be held in jail on $5,000 bond, pending a court appearance.
Robyne Faye (Haarstad) Weis, 25 of rural Rose Creek, was killed in the Aug. 14 accident at the intersection of 280th Street and Mower County CSAH No. 7 (670th Avenue) two miles north of Dexter.
Injured in the fatal accident was a passenger in the victim's car, her mother, Odean (Alliene) Haarstad, 54, rural Dexter.
The Minnesota State Patrol reconstructed the accident in the weeks following the mishap and determined enough evidence existed to file the criminal vehicular homicide charges.
Broissoit escaped injury, but a passenger in his auto, Nina Marie Jarrett, 18 of Zumbro Falls, was injured.
The Weis vehicle was struck broadside at the intersection by the Broissoit vehicle at the rural intersection, according to the investigation.
Bills are counterfeit
Jim Fischer, owner of Traders Exchange in downtown Austin, reported receiving three counterfeit bills Saturday night.
According to the Austin Police Department report, Fischer said his bartenders accepted two counterfeit $20 bills and one fake $50 bill.
The case remains under investigation by Austin police.
Vandalism continues
One night after the formation of a Neighborhood Watch Program at Bremerton Townhomes, more vandalism was reported.
According to an Austin Police Department report, Richard Edge reported garbage dumped throughout the complex in west Austin and vandalism to the laundry room used by tenants.
Edge is one of the organizers of the Neighborhood Watch Program, which started last Wednesday night.
Residents of the Townhomes complex are banding together to resist criminal acts at the multi-family
residential complex and forming
a citizens' group to aide Austin police. The residents have full support of
the owners of the complex, according to manager Becky Peters.
Multiple charges filed
An Austin man appeared in Mower County Third Judicial District Court Monday on multiple charges stemming from an apparent sexual assault.
Ernesto "Netto" Veraza, 27 of Austin, was charged with burglary, two counts of simple assault, criminal damage to property and sixth degree criminal sexual conduct, according to authorities.
The Austin Police Department received a report Saturday from a 27-year-old female.
According to the victim's complaint, she arrived home after the bars closed early Saturday morning and went to bed.
When she awoke a man was removing her clothes and kissing and fondling her. She told the man to stop and then yelled at him to leave her house. She recognized him as a man she knew as "Netto."
When the woman's brother and his girlfriend, sleeping in an upstairs apartment, heard the noise, they went to the woman's downstairs apartment to investigate. The couple confronted the man and ordered him to leave. He refused and attempted to strike them only to fail and then leave the residence.
The couple chased the man outside the residence, where they saw him get in a vehicle driven by another man.
